Lakshmi is being mind controlled because the people running the whore house have beaten her into the person they want Lakshmi to be. In order to get Lakshmi to have sex with the men and not protest, the headmaster (Mumtaz), whips and starves Lakshmi until she agrees to sleep with the men. "Tonight when Mumtaz comes to my room, she sees that her strap has left raw sores on my back and neck, my arms and legs. so she hits me on the soles of my feet."(p.110). As much as the idea makes me cringe, I look up to Lakshmi's strength. She had to undergo so much pain and sufferance that I could never handle. I would have given in far before she did.

ReplyDeleteI totally agree with you Payton. I defiantly look up to Lakshmi's strength and courage. The people in these houses are sick ans all of the men should be punished for the illegal and disgusting thing they are doing to these girls. I want to research and see if things like this are still happening today with these young girls. I want to find out what ages and where "sex trafficking/ sex slaving" is most common. You would think that this wouldn't be going on still in our world because of the government. According to polarisproject.org, "Anyone can become a victim of trafficking, certain populations are especially vulnerable." Its just not common in younger girls, but also anyone at any age, including some men. Its still in the U.S. today. This makes me sick to think that this is still going on, when we are supposed to protect people, and not harm one another, while we are drugging, raping, and abusing people for pleasure and money. Also according to polarisproject.org, " Human trafficking affects every country around the world, regardless of socio-economic status, history, or political structure." This is so scary and outright wrong. This needs to stop.
DeleteI agree! They also use mind control when they talk about Monica and how she knows all the tricks to get the most money. This makes the girls believe that if they learn how to please the men then they will get out of the Happiness House and return safely to their family. We know that this will not happen. But it makes the girls want to work more which is using mind control
