Side note: In no way does my claim mean that it does not emotionally effect either of them more. Being a sex slave must make a giant emotional scar and no woman should have to go through it.

First Post: Sold ESPRIT
Lakshimi grows up and learns the ways of a culture much different than our own, making sexual events more alien than it would to a modern american teen. Lakshimi has grown up very conservatively. Influenced by our media, teens as young as 12 are beginning sexual activity by choice. According to Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 47.4 % of high school teens have already engaged in sexual intercourse by choice. Lakshimi has had an arranged marriage her whole life and has barely spoken a few words to her soon to be spouse yet engages in playful acts of spying on him childishly, " We hid in the elephant grass to catch sight of Krishna, the boy with sleepy cat eyes, the one I am promised to marry"(3). This quote shows Lakshimi and her culture in the way they interact with boys, instead of throwing themselves on them, they barely speak a word to them. In our society we have been conditioned by the media to be promiscuous, while in Lakshimi's country you could be shunned and get in trouble for such activity. It all derives from the part women take in the country they are in, in Lakshimi's country women are always dismissal to men, and in our country we are a bit more independent and comfortable in our bodies. This also all ties into the difference between a sex slave like Lakshimi, or an american teen. Lakshimi hasn't ever come close to being immersed in such sexual acts, but a american teen would at least have experience and an idea of what is happening. Therefore, all of these events would be more alien to her than a modern american teen.
