From what i have read 13 year-old Lakshmi and her family  lives in the country of Nepal.She and her family are desperate for money and Lakshmi stepfather doesn't allow her to work so they are left to rely on their crops. But when the monsoons come it washes away all their money and about to wash away their roof. Lakshmi stepfather finally makes her go to the city to earn money. From what i have read Lakshmi and her family are full of little pleasure and  her mom Ama seems to carry a huge weight being the only one providing money. I have not go that far in the book but i am kinda happy that Lakshmi is leaving even though she is having second thought about it i want her to live a free life and not have to stay in a hut or walk up mountains all day. In the life that Ama is forced to live in the circumstances she lives in and the ass-hole of a husband she has. I just hope that Lakshmi made the right choice and get money of her work.
